After seven weeks on the road the No. 19/15 University of Minnesota Gophers were greeted by 710 fans at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium this afternoon and came away with a 5-1 victory over Purdue.

"It was awesome. We had a great turnout," head coach Jamie Trachsel said. "I thought (the fans) had good energy and you could tell our kids were enjoying it and could feel their support."

The Gophers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Natalie DenHartog punched across the first run of the day with a hard hit single to left that brought in MaKenna Partain. The freshman out of Hopkins, Minn. went 2-3 with two RBIs in her first ever home action.

"It's awesome," DenHartog said. "It's such a great community and stadium. There is just not enough good things to be said about playing at home and it just feels really good."

DenHartog and Katelyn Kemmetmueller scored on back-to-back wild pitches right after to put the Gophers up 3-0 early.

The Gophers scored on another wild pitch in the second inning, this time with Taylor Chell coming across home plate.

Amber Fiser and the field was locked in early. The junior ace only faced 10 batters through three innings using just 40 pitches and had a no-hitter going through five innings.

DenHartog brought in the fifth and final Gophers run of the day in the bottom of the third inning with a hard hit double to the gap in right.

The Boilermakers got scrappy in the seventh inning. They plated a run on a single up the middle and loaded the bases to bring the tying run to the plate, but Fiser settled in and got out of the jam with the victory.

Fiser improves to 14-6 on the season with a 1.48 ERA and 146 strikeouts. The Gophers are 23-9 and 4-0 in the Big Ten this season. They will play Purdue again tomorrow with a 1 p.m. first pitch on BTN Plus.
