Gophers Tied for 7th After 36 Holes at Rutherford Intercollegiate

MINNEAPOLIS – After 36 holes of action Saturday, the Minnesota men's golf sits tied for seventh place through two rounds at the Rutherford Intercollegiate in State College, Pa.
Taking place at Penn State's Blue Course, the Golden Gophers shot a nine-over par 293 in Saturday morning's opening round and an 11-over 295 in the afternoon to tie with Oakland at 588, 20-over par. Both teams trail the host-Nittany Lions, who are 3-under at 565.
Freshman Lincoln Johnson and sophomore Evan Long and are leading the Gophers as each are tied for 21st at 3-over with a 145.
Johnson was tied for third after the opening round thanks to a 1-under round of 70, his fifth round this season under par. He then followed it up with a 4-over 75. Long, meanwhile, opened with a 1-over 72 and posted a 2-over 73 in round two.
Johnson and Long join the field in chasing the 36-hole leader, Christopher Gotterup of Rutgers, who is 4-under at 138.
Making his spring debut, freshman Will Grevlos is tied for 48th place at 8-over. After an opening-round 77, Grevlos matched a career-low by shooting a 2-over 73 in the second round. Grevlos also had a 73 in the final round of the Gopher Invitational.
Redshirt sophomore Gus Minkin is tied with Grevlos at 8-over with a 150. His 74 in round one was a spring-best, while he followed that with a 76 in round two.
Competing as an individual, junior Noah Rasinski climbed 20 spots from round one to round two and is currently tied for 56th with a 10-over 152. After an opening around 81, Rasinski bounced back with an even-par 71 in round two. The 71 was his best round of the spring and his lowest since a final-round 68 at the Marquette Intercollegiate in early October.
Like Rasinski, freshman Harry Plowman-Ollington also improved his positioning from round one to round two as he jumped 11 spots. He is currently tied for 62nd with a 12-over 154 as he shot an 80 in round one but improved with a 3-over 74 in round two.
Round three of the Rutherford Intercollegiate is scheduled to take place Sunday morning beginning at 7 a.m. CT. Live stats will not be available for the final round.
