DenHartog Named Freshman of the Year Finalist

Natalie DenHartog has been named a Schutt Sports/NFCA Freshman of the Year Top-25 finalist, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced Thursday.
After starting the season in a pinch hitter role, DenHartog worked her way into the starting lineup the second week of the season. She blasted a home run against Notre Dame and Florida State in back-to-back games and quickly powered her way into the cleanup role in the Gophers lineup.
The Hopkins, Minn. native leads the team with a .773 slugging percentage and 43 RBIs. She is second on the team with a .373 batting average and has 11 home runs. She has also added nine doubles, one triple and five stolen bases on the year.
DenHartog has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week twice this season. She helped the Gophers pick up a pair of top-10 victories at the Longhorn Invitational. Over that weekend she led the team with a 1.000 slugging percentage and nine RBIs. She also made an impact in her first ever home series at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium and was named Freshman of the Week after hitting .600 with a 1.000 slugging percentage against Purdue.
The freshman slugger is one of three players from the Big Ten represented on the finalist list. The top-10 finalists will be named on Thursday, May 9.
