Nittany Lions Hurdle Gophers 5-2 in University Park

The University of Minnesota women's tennis team suffered their second straight loss in a 5-2 heartbreaker to Penn State. The Gophers move to 10-8, 3-3 on the season.
Doubles
The Gophers put up a valiant effort but fell just shy from forcing a third deciding match in doubles action. Despite a recent hot streak, the tandem of Bita Mancera and River Hart were finally downed 6-4 by Frederikke Svarre and Chelsea Sawyer. Although the No.1 pairing of Cammy Frei and Caitlyn Merzbacher battled to the end with the #79 ranked duo of O'Gorman and Rohrbacher of the Nittany Lions, they ultimately fell 7-5 to give Penn State the doubles point clinch.
Singles
Even though they've produced two singles rallies in conference action to win, the Gophers were unable to turn the momentum in their favor against the Nittany Lions. To start, the now 12-5, O'Gorman of Penn State put up a 6-1, 6-1 showing over Tina Kreinis in the top position. However, in her seventh, third-set match of the season, Frei was downed 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 before Huber quickly put the Gophers back within one in straight sets. In a shocking turn of events, Mancera was handed only her fourth loss of the year by Olivia Rohrbacher of Penn State to move her dual record to 13-4 on the season and giving Penn State the team win. The Gophers wrapped up action in University Park as Juliet Zhang fell to Samantha Smith 6-3, 6-1.

The Gophers add another top-25 team to their resume as they wrap up their regular season road schedule against No. 21 Ohio State on April 7 at 11am CT. After a quick trip to Columbus, the Maroon and Gold will close out their regular season with five home matches. Minnesota currently holds a 7-0 season on home court.
