Hart, Kreinis Shine Despite Team Loss

The University of Minnesota women's tennis team was handed a 5-2 loss and third consecutive conference defeat by the No. 21 Ohio State Buckeyes to wrap up their regular season road schedule. The Gophers move to 10-9, 3-4 on the season as they return home to finish off their year with five matches on home court.
Doubles
The Buckeyes dominated doubles play with wins out of the top two spots. However, in a recently created pairing of Camila Vargas and River Hart, the Gophers left a match unfinished, yet ahead 4-3 over Ohio State's Mary Beth Hurley and Luna Dormet.
Singles
Tina Kreinis and River Hart shined despite the Gophers' showing in Columbus. Hart kicked things off for the Maroon and Gold with a straight-set 6-3, 6-3 victory over Mary Beth Hurley in the No. 6 position. Minnesota found themselves on the board once more when Kreinis knocked off the ITA/Oracle #71 Kolie Allen in a 7-5, 7-6 (7) showing to give her, her first singles ranked win of the season. The Buckeyes went on to sweep the remaining matchups to give them the 5-2 win on their home court.
"I think I prepared a lot better this week and focused on some basic things that Brian [Ward] discussed with me all week," Kreinis said. "They were really simple yet crucial for this match so preparing well helped me perform well."

The Gophers seek to protect their perfect 7-0 season on home court as they close out their home campaign with five matches at Baseline Tennis Center. Minnesota will welcome No. 25 Northwestern on April 12 and No. 33 Illinois on April 14 to Minneapolis for a weekend-long dual. Matches against the Wildcats and the Illini will mark the Maroon and Gold's eighth ranked opponent on the season.
