Gophers Shine at Jim Click Shootout

The Gophers competed at the Jim Click Shootout and the Hamline Invitational on Saturday.

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Golden Gophers track & field program won nine event titles at the Jim Click Shootout while members of the team also competed locally at the Hamline Invitational on Saturday.

The Minnesota women cruised to the team title with 193 points behind seven event titles while the Gopher men followed suit with a team title behind 156 points and a pair of event titles. 

Women's Recap
The women won seven titles and posted five all-time top-10 marks as the Jim Click Shootout came to a close with a full evening of competition on Saturday. Amira Young, Kelli Schmidt, Anastasia Korzenowski, and Rachel Schow claimed event titles on the track for the Maroon & Gold while Temi Ogunrinde, Tess Keyzers, and Lexi Kiefer were victorious in the field events.

Young won the 100m dash in a career-best 11.49 seconds to move into second in Minnesota history. She also placed third in the 200m dash in a career-best 23.75 seconds, good for fourth among all-time Gophers.

Schmidt won the 800m in a career-best 2:09.36 to lead three Gophers in the top four while Korzenowski won the 1,500m in a career-best 4:28.49 and led four Gophers among the top-eight finishers. Meanwhile, Schow won the 400m hurdles in a season-best 58.07 seconds along with finishing sixth in the 100m hurdles in a season-best 13.65 seconds.

In the field events, Minnesota won three more titles. Ogurinde won hammer throw with a season-best mark of 65.29m (214-02), good for seventh in the nation so far this season. The Gophers picked up 21 points in the event as Kaitlyn Long (fourth), Tess Keyzers (fifth), and Erin Dunning (seventh) also posted scoring finishes.
Keyzers also won shot put to lead three Gophers in the top four of the event. She threw 16.20m (53-01.75) for the win, followed by runner-up Kiley Sabin (15.80m, 51-10.00) and Shay Nielsen (14.85m, 48-08.75) in fourth place.

Kiefer won pole vault with a season-best mark of 4.00m (13-01.50) while Hannah Morris moved into fourth on Minnesota's all-time list with a mark of 6.26m (20-06.50) to finish as runner-up finish in long jump. Lorean Murray also posted an all-time top-10 mark as runner-up in triple jump, recording a mark of 12.72m (41-08.75) to move into fourth among all-time Gophers.

The Gophers competed in the heptathlon on Thursday and Friday where Monique Felix led the Maroon & Gold with a fifth-place finish, scoring 5,228 points to move into sixth among all-time Gophers in the event.

Men's Recap
The Maroon & Gold men opened the weekend on Saturday at the Jim Click Shootout with a pair of titles as well as several notable performances. Minnesota also took home the team title with 156 points while scoring in every event the Gophers competed in. 

The Gophers got off to a hot start on Saturday with 19 points and three personal records in the first men's event scored – the men's hammer throw. Jon Nerdal led the way with a runner-up finish at 65.77 meters (215-09 ft.), a personal record that jumped Nerdal into sixth all-time at Minnesota. Kieran McKeag also hit a personal record of 65.31 meters (214-03 ft.) to finish third although Nerdal's performance on Saturday actually caused McKeag to move from seventh to eighth all-time at Minnesota in the discipline. Kaleb Siekmeier added a personal record in sixth place while Connor Rousemiller finished seventh for Minnesota. 

Minnesota also earned 19 points in the men's 1,500 meters behind a win from Owen Hoeft, who ran the University's fastest time of the season at 3:50.87. Jordan MacIntosh came in second place while Hunter Staack finished eighth. 

Additionally, the Maroon & Gold picked up 10 points with a victory from Nick Rink in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase. Rink led the field with a time of 9:20.95. 
The Gophers added another big performance in the 400-meter hurdles as the team combined for 11 points including Grant Fuller's personal record of 52.39 to finish fourth. The time ranks tied for fifth in program history. Collin Sieffert added a fifth-place finish at 52.90 while Clayton Johnson came in seventh. 

Minnesota also earned double digit point totals in the following events -- 19 in the triple jump (Sammie Houston, James Travis, Mason Roomes), 15 points in the discus (Siekmeier, Jonathan Tharaldsen, McKeag), 13 points in the 800 meters (Dawson LaRance, Lucas Trapp), 10 points in the pole vault (Mike Herauf, John Uchytil). 
Additionally, the Gophers added nine points in the men's shot put from Tharaldsen and Eric Rousemiller, six points in the men's long jump with Mason Roomes' third-place finish and five points from Eric Walker in the 110-meter hurdles. Minnesota had another five points from Ben Gucinski in the high jump while the Maroon & Gold combined for six points in the men's 400 meters between Ben Psicihulis and Elliott Davis. Zach Nelson added three points in the 100 meters with a sixth-place finish and additional two points in the men's 200 meters. Minnesota added four points in relay events with three in the 4x400 and one in the 4x100. 

Hamline Invitational Recap
Members of the team also competed at the Hamline Invitational on Saturday. Gophers Jaycie Thomsen (women's 5000m) and Seth Eliason (men's 800m) won titles to lead Minnesota while Ayesha Champagnie (women's 200m and women's high jump), Libby Halbmaier (women's 1500m), Natalie Windels (women's 400m hurdles), and Nayoka Clunis (women's shot put) won titles while competing unattached.
