MINNEAPOLIS – Making his postseason debut, Gophers sophomore Angus Flanagan is tied for 46th place following Monday's opening round of the NCAA Regional in Austin, Texas.

Taking place at the University of Texas Golf Club, which is playing as a par-71 at 7,355 yards, Flanagan shot a 5-over-par 76 to finish Monday tied with eight other golfers.

The low five teams and the low individual not on those five qualifying teams will advance to the NCAA Championship at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark., May 24-29.

Texas' Pierceson Coody leads all individuals after posting a 5-under 66, while host-Texas and Pepperdine are tied atop the leaderboard at 6-under with a 278.Ā After round one, the low individuals not among the top five teams are USC's Sam Kim and Iowa's Benton Weinberg, who both opened with a 2-under 69, seven strokes better than Flanagan.

Flanagan began his day with a double bogey on the opening hole and stayed at 2-over with three straight pars. He then bogeyed three of the next four holes before a par on No. 9 left him at 5-over for the front nine.

The back nine began better for the Woking, England, native as he registered his lone birdie of the round with a three on the par-4 10th. Three straight pars kept Flanagan at 4-over, while a bogey on No. 14 put him back at 5-over. He then closed out his round with four consecutive pars.

Looking ahead to Tuesday's second round, Flanagan will have the same itinerary as his opening round. He'll tee off on No. 1 beginning at 9:53 a.m.
