The Gophers closed out the regular season with a tenth straight Big Ten weekly award as Amber Fiser picked up her Big Ten record tying sixth Pitcher of the Week honor this season, the conference announced Monday.
The Gophers won a weekly award in 11 out of the possible 13 weeks and Fiser has now won four Pitcher of the Week accolades in a row. Fiser's six Pitcher of the Week honors is the most ever by a Gopher in a single season. She is the first Big Ten player since 2011 to win six in one season and is only the third player to ever accomplish the feat.
Fiser shined on the national stage this past weekend. Unbeaten Northwestern came into the weekend with a 19-game winning streak. Fiser only gave up three hits to them in 16.2 innings of work and struck out 25 batters. She picked up a pair of victories and only allowed one run all weekend.
The junior ace got the Gophers out of a big jam on Saturday when she came into the game in the third with the bases loaded and one out. She struck out two batters and proceeded to strikeout seven straight in a run-rule victory. She took a no-hitter into the seventh inning on Sunday and finished with a one-hit shutout.
The Van Horne, Iowa native is 25-7 with a 1.25 ERA and 281 strikeouts. She is the Big Ten leader in ERA and strikeouts and is fifth in the NCAA in strikeouts.
