Fiser Wins Third Career NFCA Pitcher of the Week Honor
5/7/2019 1:40:00 PM | Softball
For the third time in her career and second time this season, Amber Fiser has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Pitcher of the Week, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced Tuesday.
Fiser rose to the occasion in some of the biggest appearances of her career. Northwestern came in with a 19-game winning streak and one of the hottest offenses in the country and Fiser stifled them to just three hits in 16.2 innings of work. She struck out 25 batters in that span and only gave up one run. She picked up two wins for the Gophers in the regular series finale that saw games on both ESPN and Big Ten Network in front of sellout crowds.
The Player of the Year Top-26 finalist got the Gophers out of a big jam on Saturday when she came into the game in the third with the bases loaded and one out. She struck out two batters and proceeded to strikeout seven straight in a run-rule victory. She took a no-hitter into the seventh inning on Sunday and finished with a one-hit shutout.
The junior ace is 25-7 with a 1.25 ERA and 281 strikeouts. She is the Big Ten leader in ERA and strikeouts and is fifth in the NCAA in strikeouts.
Fiser continues to make an awards haul this season. She set a new program single season record and tied a Big Ten record yesterday when she was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for the sixth time this season. She is just the third player in conference history to accomplish that feat and the first since the 2011 season.
