Board of Regents Approves Team Area Renovations for 3M Arena at Mariucci

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota Board of Regents has approved a renovation project for 3M Arena at Mariucci with over 11,000 square feet of team space impacted including a state-of-the-art weight room, a remodeled office suite and the introduction of a new 'M' Club alumni room.Â
Gopher Athletics has partnered with Mortenson Construction and JLG Architects for the upcoming project, which will be funded entirely through private donations. A frequent collaborator with the University of Minnesota, Mortenson Construction has previously overseen construction of TCF Bank Stadium and the Athletes Village while also contracting on the 11,000 square foot locker room renovation at 3M Arena at Mariucci in 2016. Meanwhile, JLG Architects has previously partnered with the University of Minnesota for a 160,000 square foot expansion of the Recreation Center on campus while also overseeing plans for dozens of sports facilities across the country including U.S. Bank Stadium. Art Partners Group, another frequent partner of Gopher Athletics, will handle branding/finishing for the renovation, highlighting Gopher Hockey's rich tradition and history.Â
"This is an exciting time for our program, and we are really looking forward to the opportunities these new team areas will provide for current, future and former Gophers. Between this project and the new locker room area beneath it, there's no question there is going to be a wow factor when you walk into the rink. You can't help but feel a buzz and want to be part of this program," Minnesota head men's hockey coach Bob Motzko said. "We can't express enough appreciation for everyone who has supported this project and worked tirelessly to see it become a reality later this year."Â

The state-of-the-art weight room will renovate 6,700 square feet of strength training area on the first floor of 3M Arena at Mariucci, allowing University of Minnesota student-athletes to maximize their potential through training, weight training and skill development. Included in the project will be the introduction of a new shooting area to be utilized by both hockey programs.

Adjoined to the weight room will be a 4,560 square foot space that features the new 'M" Club alumni room as well as the office suite. The area will also serve as a multi-purpose space for the Gopher Hockey program and the department of athletics including recruiting and alumni events, providing a memorable experience and atmosphere to countless visitors to 3M Arena at Mariucci.

Season tickets for the 2019-20 Gopher Hockey season – the 99th campaign in program history – are now on sale through GopherSports.com. Season tickets start at $500 – the lowest price point for season tickets at the University of Minnesota since 1999-2000. Highlighting this year's lineup is one of the strongest home schedules in program history with Minnesota hosting all six Big Ten opponents (Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin) along with nonconference foes in North Dakota, Minnesota Duluth, Minnesota State, Bemidji State, St. Cloud State and Niagara.Â
