MINNEAPOLIS – Gophers redshirt sophomore All-American Kieran McKeag earned a silver medal with runner-up honors in the men's hammer throw on Saturday at the NACAC U23 Championships in Queretaro, Mexico.

A native of Lakeville, Minn., McKeag cleared 66.37 meters in the event as the United States claimed the top-two positions on the podium -- Robert Colantonio narrowly bested McKeag for the event title at 66.78 meters.

McKeag recently wrapped up an impressive collegiate season that saw the redshirt sophomore earn a pair of Second Team All-America accolades. The thrower finished 12th in the men's weight throw during the indoor season before a 14th-place performance in the men's hammer throw during the outdoor campaign. Additionally, McKeag posted two of the best performances in University of Minnesota history in his respective events during the 2019 track & field season – finishing the year ranked second in program history in the weight throw at 21.97 meters (72-01.00 ft.) and third in the hammer throw at 68.01 meters (223-01 ft.).
