Members of the Golden Gopher women's cross country team unofficially kicked off the 2019 season on Friday night.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Bethany Hasz and Megan Hasz both broke 18 minutes for five kilometers to lead the way as the Golden Gophers unofficially kicked off the 2019 cross country season by hosting the women's annual Intrasquad 5K race at Les Bolstad Course on Friday evening.Â
The Hasz duo ran 17:49 to lead the way with B. Hasz taking home top individual honors to lead the Gold Team to victory with 31 points ahead of the Maroon Team (37 points) and the Black Team (59 points). M. Hasz led the Black Team while Anastasia Korzenowski finished third overall to lead the Maroon Team.
"Kicking off the 2019 season, we always do our annual Intrasquad and break the team into three. Overarchingly, I thought it was a really good day," Gopher women's cross country head coach Sarah Hopkins said. "We saw some people step up that have maybe not been in those roles in the past and that's kind-of what we were looking for today, to see who was ready to step up when the gun went off. We've had some great workouts the first week of the season, but it's always a little bit different when the lights are on and there's a little bit more pressure."
Minnesota officially opens its 2019 campaign when both the men's and women's cross country teams host the Oz Memorial 6K at Les Bolstad Course on Friday, Sept. 6.
