9/10/2019 2:31:00āÆPM | Women's Golf
WOODBURY, Minn. ā Junior Kate Lillie carded a 3-under-par 69 in the final round of the Minnesota Invitational, helping move the Gopher women's golf team up four spots on the team leaderboard. Led by Lillie's tie for 12th place, the Gophers finished 11th (307-288ā595) in the rain-shortened 36-hole event at Prestwick Golf Club.
Lillie was one of three Gophers to turn in a par-or-better scorecard for the second round, which resumed Tuesday morning after a nearly 18-hour delay due to weather.
Kentucky (288-289ā577) captured the team title while Georgia's Caterina Don (66-69ā135) earned a one-stroke victory and medalist honors.
Quotable
"It's always such a blast to be able to compete at home. Everyone here at Prestwick is so supportive and rooting for us. My putting was the strongest today, I was able to put myself in some good positions and make the putts." ā Lillie, on her performance at the tournament
Notable
Lillie's T-12th finish is the best of her career and marks the second top-20 for the junior from St. Charles, Ill. The score of 69 matches her best 18-hole total (Juli Inkster Invitational first round, Mar. 17, 2019).
Up Next
The Gophers return to the East Metro in less than one week, cohosting the ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M at Royal Golf Club in Lake Elmo from September 16-18.
