Gophers Finish Round One of ANNIKA Intercollegiate

LAKE ELMO, Minn. - Freshman Annabelle Ackroyd carded three birdies and seven pars in her final 10 holes to pace the Minnesota women's golf team on the opening day of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M.
Competing against the best field in college women's golf at the Royal Golf Club, the Gophers are in 12th place at 20-over-par, three shots behind Virginia.
Ackroyd, who finished with a 3-over-par 75, is tied with junior Joanne Free for 36th. Sophomore Kate Lillie and freshman Grace Curran each turned in 7-over-par 79 scorecards to tie for 56th, while freshman Emma Carpenter is T-59th after an opening round of 8-over-par.
Wake Forest leads the team competition at 6-under-par while the Demon Deacons' Rachel Kuehn is the first-round leader at 5-under par 67.

The tournament – in its third year co-hosted by the Gophers and second year at the Arnold Palmer and Annika Sorenstam-designed Royal Golf Club – featured a hole-in-one Monday by Arizona State's Alessandra Fanali on the par-3 16th hole.
