Gophers Top Whitecaps in Final Preseason Game

Minnesota earned a 5-1 win over the defending NWHL Isobel Cup champion Minnesota Whitecaps on Sunday.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The No. 2 Golden Gopher women's hockey team wrapped up its preseason exhibition slate with a 5-1 win over the NWHL's Minnesota Whitecaps at Ridder Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The Whitecaps got on the board first with a goal by Jonna Curtis in the final second of the opening frame, but the Maroon & Gold responded with three second-period goals and added two more in the third period. Taylor Heise led the way with three points (2g-1a) while Grace Zumwinkle (1g-1a) and Amy PotomakĀ (1g-1a) each had two points in the win. Sydney ShearenĀ also scored for the Maroon & Gold.
Three goaltenders saw action for the Gophers as Sydney Scobee made four saves in period one before Makayla Pahl stopped all four shots she faced in period two. Alex GulsteneĀ closed out the game with three saves in period three. The Gophers outshot the Whitecaps, 57-12, for the game, and Amanda Leveille made 52 saves for the visitors.Ā
