Gophers Sweep Gators in Home Opener

The No. 8 University of Minnesota volleyball program opened their home slate at Maturi Pavilion Saturday night and came away with a 3-0 sweep over No. 7 Florida. With the win, the Gophers even their record to 2-2.
The Gophers and Gators played in a tight match with nine tie scores and three lead changes, but Minnesota pulled out the victory with set scores of 25-20, 25-17 and 25-22. Minnesota outhit Florida .240 to .147 and tallied 44 kills.
Junior Stephanie Samedy led the Gophers and had a double-double evening with 16 kills and 12 digs and hit .343, along with a service ace. Senior setter Kylie Miller appeared in her first home match as a Golden Gophers as she registered 36 assists and an ace. She also had two kills of her own in three attempts.
Sophomore Adanna Rollins also contributed to the win with eight kills and two blocks assists and senior Alexis Hart added nine kills.Â

The Gophers head to University Park, Penn. on Friday, Sept. 13 for the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. They will face Oregon in their opening match and Stanford on Saturday.
