Minnesota Opens Season with Close Battle Against No. 2 Denver

DENVER, COLO. - The University of Minnesota Women's gymnastics team put up a solid team performance, keeping things close against second-ranked Denver. Minnesota lost by only .275, putting up a team score of 196.475 to Denver's 196.750.

Notable
Two Gophers made their first ever appearance in the Maroon and Gold. Halle Remlinger made performed on both vault (9.725) and floor (9.750), while Maddie Quarles put up a spectacular score of 9.900 on vault.

"Really proud of this team and their performance," head coach Jenny Hansen said. "Denver is a great team and for us to have this type of performance in their arena during the first meet of the season is very exciting!"

All-Around
Lexy Ramler kicked off the season with a 39.575 in the all-around, taking second behind her fellow 2019 Regional Gymnast of the Year Denver's Maddie Karr (39.625). The St. Michael, Minn. native claimed a share of the Vault title and took second on beam with a 9.950. Ona Loper finished fourth in the all-around with a 39.225, notably earning a 9.825 on her Yurchenko 1.5 vault.

Event Breakdown
Bars
Ramler led the way for the Gophers with a 9.900 for second place. Ivy Lu was Minnesota's next-highest finisher with a score of 9.875. Ona Loper and Tiarre Sales tied for seventh with a 9.800 and Kristen Quaglia scored 9.750. Minnesota posted a team score of 49.125.

Vault
Minnesota edged Denver on vault with a score of 49.125. Ramler and Quarles claimed a share of the three-way tie for the event title, scoring 9.900. It was Quarles' first-ever appearance on the event. Loper tied for fifth with a score of 9.825 and Ali Sonier and Paige Williams shared seventh place with their scores of 9.750. 

Floor
Ramler (9.825) and Loper (9.800) had the best two finishes on floor for Minnesota to take third and fourth place overall. Sonier and Williams again shared a spot on the leaderboard, scoring 9.775 for sixth place. Remlinger rounded out the scoring for the Gophers with a 9.750. The Maroon and Gold combined for an overall score of 48.925 on the event.

Beam
The Gophers outscored the Pioneers on beam by 0.05 for a score of 49.300. Ramler earned a 9.950 to close out the meet with second place in the event. Sales placed third with a score of 9.925 to cap Minnesota's podium finishes. Lu notched a 9.825 to place sixth and Loper and Mary Korlin-Downs were just behind with a pair of 9.800s to tie for seventh. The Gophers put up a team score of 49.300, tying them for eighth all time in program history.
