Gophers Drop 4-1 Decision

Minnesota fell 4-1 to Ohio State in game one of this weekend's series Friday night at Ridder Arena.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The top-ranked University of Minnesota women's hockey team fell by a score of 4-1 to No. 5 Ohio State in game one of this weekend's series at Ridder Arena on Friday night.
Minnesota (19-2-3, 11-2-2-1 WCHA) received its lone goal from Taylor Heise when the sophomore forward tied the game at 1-1 in the first period, but Ohio State (14-5-4, 9-3-3-1 WCHA) rallied with three third-period goals to take the 4-1 win. The Buckeyes were led by Gabby Rosenthal's two-goal effort and received multiple points from Rebecca Freiburger (1g-1a) and Sophie Jaques (1g-1a) as well.Â
The Gophers were outshot for just the third time this season as the Buckeyes had the advantage at 34-22. Sydney Scobee made 22 saves on 26 shots faced over the first two periods before Makayla Pahl made eight saves in the third period while the visitors got 21 saves from Andrea Braendli.

"Well, a tough one here tonight. Quite frankly, we got our butts kicked," head coach Brad Frost said. "There's not much more to say tactically. We need to put this behind us and be a whole lot better tomorrow. We're looking forward to Hockey Day Minnesota and the opportunity to be outside. We faced a little adversity here tonight, but hopefully we respond well tomorrow."
