ANN ARBOR, MI. - The Minnesota Wrestling program fell 22-15 to the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday night in Ann Arbor, Michigan.Â
With the dual beginning at 141-pounds, senior captain Mitch McKee got the Gophers on the board first with an 8-5 decision. The Minnesota native recorded all four takedowns in the bout to earn his 88th career victory.Â
After dropping the bouts at 149 and 157-pounds, Bailee O'Reilly got the Gophers back on track with a 17-8 major decision at 165-pounds. O'Reilly put on takedown clinic with six in the bout and his final effort sealed the four team-points to give Minnesota the lead.Â
Back in his home state, Devin Skatzka took home the 17-2 technical fall victory over Max Maylor to send Maroon and Gold into intermission leading 12-6. The victory gave Skatzka his second victory on weekend to bring his career total up to 101.Â
Patrick McKee recorded his sixth straight victory when he secured a takedown of Jack Medley on the edge in sudden victory.
All four individual Gophers who recorded victories on Sunday afternoon also won on Friday and improved to 2-0 on the weekend. That list includes both the McKee brothers, O'Reilly, and Skatzka.Â
Out of the six Gophers losses, three came by a two-point margin. Both Ryan Thomas and Hunter Ritter narrowly missed victories while Owen Webster was taken down in sudden victory.Â
Minnesota returns home to face the Ohio State Buckeyes on January 26 at Maturi Pavilion. The squad hits the road again on Super Bowl weekend to take on both the Indiana Hoosiers and the Purdue Boilermakers.Â
