Minnesota Has Perfect Home Opener

The No. 7 University of Minnesota downed No. 17 Illinois in their home opener. Minnesota won it with a team score of 196.300 to Illinois 195.225. The Maroon and Gold swept the podium on vault, bars and beam. 

Lexy Ramler scored her second perfect 10 in two weeks. This was the first ever perfect 10 scored at Maturi Pavilion on any event.

Notable
Ona Loper scored a career-high 39.525 to win the all-around title, her first ever. She also took home the vault and floor titles as well.


Quotable
"It was so great to be back at the Pav, we had a tremendous crowd there tonight, which was really so much fun for our athletes. We love when we can create that atmosphere for them," head coach Jenny Hansen said. "Beam again was just fabulous. Whenever anybody scores a 10, it's a fantastic night. The whole beam team did a fantastic job, I thought bars was a lot better tonight as well. There was just a lot of really good things for us to build on for us next week."

All-Around
Loper secure the first place finish with a 39.525 all-around score, and two event titles. Ramler took second with a 38.900 and took home the beam and uneven bars titles.

Vault
The Gophers started the evening on vault and Loper tied her personal best of 9.925 in the anchor spot for first place. Minnesota swept the podium on the event, with Ramler taking second (9.875) and senior Paige Williams coming in third (9.850). Freshman Halle Remlinger tied for fifth with a score of 9.775 and sophomore Ali Sonier scored 9.700 for ninth.

Uneven Bars
Minnesota also managed to sweep the top three spots on bars, led by Ramler with a score of 9.950 for the event title and to tie her personal best. Senior Ivy Lu followed up with a 9.925 for the silver and Loper tied her career high of 9.825 for third place. Sophomore Tiarre Sales took fifth with a score of 9.800 and senior Kristen Quaglia tied for eighth (9.750).

Beam
Lexy Ramler scored her second perfect 10 on beam in a row, this time in front of her hometown crowd for the event title. Sophomore Tiarre Sales earned a 9.900 to take second. Loper and senior Mary Korlin-Downs split fifth place with scores of 9.850 and Sonier came in eighth (9.800).

Floor
The Gophers finished the night on floor and claimed all of the top three spots. Loper tied her career high of 9.925 for the gold, while sophomore Kaitlyn Higgins set a new career high of 9.850 for the silver. Remlinger and Williams both scored 9.825 to tie for third, a new personal best for Remlinger.

Minnesota travels to Columbus for a match up with Ohio State on Saturday Feb. 1. The meet is set to be streamed on BTN + and will begin at 6 PM.
