Minnesota returns home to host Minnesota Duluth at Ridder Arena next Friday and Saturday.
MADISON, Wis. -- The No. 2 University of Minnesota women's hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to top-ranked Wisconsin in the final regular-season meeting between the border rivals at LaBahn Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Minnesota (20-4-3, 12-4-2-1 WCHA) trailed by two going into the third period after Wisconsin (23-2-1, 13-2-1-0 WCHA) took a two-goal lead in the middle frame behind a pair of goals scored by Presley Norby. The Gophers pulled goaltender Sydney Scobee for the extra attacker with just over 90 seconds remaining, but Daryl Watts put the game away for the Badgers with an empty-net goal with 31.7 seconds on the clock.
Quotable
"A tough one here tonight, but we defended pretty well and our team never quit," head coach Brad Frost said. "We couldn't get the same magic we had last night. We had some great chances, but we couldn't find the back of the net. Scobee played really well. We're disappointed to not come away with any points here this weekend, but we're going to regroup and be ready to go against Duluth. We're looking forward to another strong match-up."
