Wiskus Earns Back-To-Back B1G, CGA Weekly Awards

Junior captain Shane Wiskus has won the Big Ten and College Gymnastics Association Gymnast of the Week Awards for the second week in a row, the organizations announced Tuesday. He has won the award in as many meets that he's competed in this season and it is the fifth of his career.
Wiskus had a stellar outing for the Gophers in their home opener on Jan. 24 and won the all-around, floor and parallel bars titles for the second consecutive meet. His all-around score of 84.600 is the highest of any gymnast in the nation this season and his parallel bars score of 15.100 is the second-highest in the country. Both were career highs. He also nabbed second place on vault (14.250) and rings (13.950).
He helped the Gophers to a huge score of 70.150 on parallel bars, which was No. 1 in the country after the meet and was only topped by one other team over the weekend, defending national champion Stanford.
Shane is currently the No. 1 all-arounder in the country and is also top-ranked on parallel bars, an event in which he is the reigning NCAA champion. He is also ranked in the top 15 on three other events: No. 4 on floor and rings and No. 15 on vault.
The Gophers are now 1-0 in their Big Ten regular season slate and head to Iowa City this weekend to take on the Hawkeyes and UIC Flames on Saturday at 1 p.m.
