Growing up in a family of seven, Abbie Nylin is always being entertained by one of her siblings, but when she gets on that floor, she is the one entertaining everyone else. It's easy to see why floor is her favorite event, as she loves interacting with and wowing the crowd with her routine and bubbly personality. Having a large family also means that she has the biggest fan club, supporting and cheering her on at every meet, which is something she is so grateful for.
Gopher Sports: What are you most looking forward to this season?
Abbie Nylin: This season, I am most looking forward to getting back onto the competition floor and doing it with my teammates. I am also super excited to see where this team goes. We have so much potential and it's super exciting.
GS: What is your pre-meet routine? Do you have any superstitions
AN: My pre-meet routine is eating the same thing, have some coffee and get my hair done by Mary Korlin-Downs. I don't really have any superstitions.
GS: What is your favorite event to compete on?
AN: My favorite event to compete on is floor. I love showing my routine off and interacting with the fans.
GS: What is something you are passionate about outside of gymnastics?
AN: Outside of gymnastics, I am really passionate about being outdoors. I love biking, hiking, being out on the lake and basically anything outdoors. I also love to sing.
GS: What was it like growing up with five siblings?
AN: One word: AWESOME. Growing up with five siblings was honestly the best. It's like you automatically had five best friends. There was never a dull moment in our house and I am constantly being entertained. They're also my biggest supporters and my biggest cheering section. I know they'd do anything for me and I the same. I am so grateful for my parents for providing us a great life where they want the best for each one of their kids.
GS: How have you been able to balance being a student and athlete?
AN: Being a student and an athlete at the same time can be very difficult at times. You are constantly juggling many different things and always have a very busy schedule. For me, I have been able to balance the life through all of the resources that are available on campus. Everyone is very willing to help and want you to succeed.
GS: What is your favorite memory from being on this team?
AN: My favorite memory was going to LSU last year for Regionals. That trip was so amazing and we as a team really showed what we are all about.
GS: What did you do over winter break?
AN: Over break, I did some volunteering, went laser tagging, sledding and hung out with my friends and family.
