Kings Select Faber in Second Round

MINNEAPOLIS – Gopher Hockey freshman defenseman Brock Faber became the 217th signed University of Minnesota prospect to be drafted after being selected 45th overall (second round) by the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday at the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
A native of Maple Grove, Minn., Faber is the eighth all-time 'U' prospect to be drafted by Los Angeles and the highest Gophers draft pick by the organization. The defenseman was the first Minnesotan selected in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
"Getting drafted is a huge accomplishment and something I've dreamed of happening for a long time," Faber said. "I think this is really just the start though. There are a lot of things that I really want to accomplish still, and being at the University of Minnesota, a national championship is one of them. Definitely that's my next goal, that's what I want to achieve, and I think we have a great group here to do it."
Faber spent the last two seasons with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program and will participate in the 2020 U.S. National Junior Team Evaluation Camp later this week ahead of the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship. With the U.S., Faber won a gold medal at the 2019 Five Nations Tournament and silver medals at the 2020 Five Nations Tournament and the 2018 Under-18 Four Nations Tournament. He added a bronze medal at the 2019 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament.
Gopher Hockey NHL Entry Draft Notes: Faber is the 29th Pride on Ice prospect selected in the second round of the NHL Entry Draft – the most popular round for Gophers to be picked…the Maroon & Gold have now had a draft pick in 46 of the last 47 NHL Entry Drafts with 2000 serving as the only exception...2020 NHL Entry Draft coverage includes only signed Gopher Hockey prospects.

Big day for Brock Faber, but the first Minnesotan taken in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft found time after practice to chat with the @LAKings before running off to class. #Gophers x #PrideOnICe pic.twitter.com/lGouLF4eJz
