The No. 14/13 University of Minnesota Gophers topped No. 19/18 Missouri 10-1 in six innings to cap off the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational.Â
The Gophers played three ranked teams and another receiving votes in three days with victories over No. 5/5 Florida State and today's run-rule win over No. 19/18 Missouri this weekend.Â
The Gophers used a huge fourth inning to pull away this afternoon. They started the frame by loading the bases with no outs and poured on five runs. Freshman Sydney Strelow kept her big weekend going with an RBI-single to left to get things rolling. Josey White delivered a huge double down the left field line right after to score two more.Â
Kianna Jones made it 4-0 with a sacrifice fly and the fifth run came on a Missouri throwing error.Â
Missouri loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the fourth and brought in a run on a hit by pitch. Amber Fiser induced a groudout to get out of the frame without allowing any further damage.Â
Minnesota quickly got the run back in the top of the fifth. Emily Hansen knocked down a triple that just got under a diving centerfielder with two outs on the board. Katelyn Kemmetmueller drove an RBI-single up the middle right after to make it 6-1 Gophers. It was Hansen's second triple of the early season.Â
The Maroon and Gold continued to pour it on in the sixth inning. Jones launched the first home run of her career to center. Brooke Vander Heide later scored on an error and Natalie DenHartog made it 10-1 with a two-RBI single to center. DenHartog went 3-4 with two RBIs in the victory.Â
Fiser closed the door on the run-rule win in the bottom of the sixth. She went six innings with eight strikeouts including strikeouts on the final six outs of the game and only allowed four hits. She moves to 3-4 on the season.Â
