MINNEAPOLIS – The Big Ten Conference has named Gopher Hockey sophomore forward Blake McLaughlin as the Big Ten Second Star of the Week after Minnesota picked up five out of six points last weekend on the road at Notre Dame.
A native of Grand Rapids, Minn., McLaughlin tallied three points (two goals, one assist) in the series and ended the weekend with 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) on the season – his totals for goals and points are both new career highs. The Anaheim Ducks prospect scored a goal and added an assist in Friday's 3-3 overtime tie (Minnesota went on to pick up the Big Ten bonus point in a shootout) before picking up the game-winning goal with a power-play tally on Saturday in a 2-1 third period rally for the Maroon & Gold. McLaughlin is currently riding a career-high four-game goal scoring streak while his four-game point streak is one short of tying his career long.
The sophomore has tallied a goal in all four regular-season games he has played at Compton Family Ice Arena while he has picked up the game-winning goal in three of the four contests. In nine career games against the Irish, McLaughlin has seven points (four goals, three assists).
