Gophers Post Strong Scores on Day One in Long Beach

SEAL BEACH, Calif. -Ā Two Gopher freshmen are in contention through 36 holes Monday at The Gold Rush, hosted by Long Beach State at Old Ranch Country Club.
Freshman Annabelle Ackroyd (73-74ā147) is tied for 11th place and just six shots off the leader after posting the two lowest rounds of her Gopher career. Classmate Grace Curran sizzled in the opening round, finishing the first 18 holes tied for fifth and one shot off the lead, before closing the day in 17th place (71-77ā148), one shot behind Ackroyd.
Juniors Kate Lillie (75-78ā153) and Grace Kellar (77-80ā157) are tied for 31st and 46th place, respectively. Three shots behind is sophomore Karen Zhang (80-80ā160), who is tied for 56th place.
As a team, Minnesota is in seventh place (296-309ā605), while Georgia holds the team lead at 582. UGA's Celeste Dao, the only individual in the field, is leading the way at 3-under-par 141.
Up the road at El Dorado Golf Course, Gophers junior Jessica Lee is tied for fifth (75-80ā155) among the individual competitors taking part in The Prospector Invite.
Play continues Tuesday with the conclusion of the Gold Rush, scheduled for a 8:00 a.m. PT shotgun start.
