Minnesota Baseball is set to open their 2020 home midweek slate on Wednesday, as the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State venture to Minneapolis for a standalone game at U.S. Bank Stadium. This will be the first of three scheduled match-ups between the two border rivals this season. The Gophers will also take on SDSU on March 4 and April 15 later in the campaign.
Last Time Out
The Gophers just put the bow on their first home series of the year this past weekend, dropping two-out-of-three games to TCU at U.S. Bank Stadium. The Maroon and Gold fell in game one, 12-0, before turning things around and rallying back to claim game two, 7-6. J.P. Massey earned the win in the Gophers' lone series victory, with Jack Wassel and Easton Bertrand launching home runs in the contest. Both would finish with three hits in the game, with Wassel driving in four runs in the process. Closing it out, Bubba Horton threw 2 2/3 shutout frames to record his second save of the young season. After forcing a game three rubber match, the Gophers came up short in their attempt to claim the series. TCU prevailed 11-2 in the final game, although Bertrand and Jordan Kozicky used a pair of solo homers to keep the game close at 5-2 in the middle innings.

The two teams last competed during the 2019 season, with Minnesota taking two games against SDSU in Minneapolis via scores of 5-1 and 5-0. In the most recent of those two games (W, 5-0 on May 7), Massey fired 4 1/3 shutout innings, allowing just two hits and four walks while striking out three. Massey, Nick Lackney, Nolan Burchill and Bubba Horton combined to throw a shutout for the U.
