Spring Season Starts this Weekend at Big Ten Match Play

MINNEAPOLIS – After a three-month layoff since the conclusion of the fall slate in mid-October, the Minnesota men's golf team is back in action this weekend at the 12th annual Big Ten Match Play Championship.
Thirteen of the 14 Big Ten teams have been drawn into a single-elimination bracket, with the seeds determined using the latest Golfstat rankings. Each team match will consist of six individual matches at the Ocean Course at the Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Fla., which is playing as a par-72 at 7,201 yards.
Earning the No. 3 seed, Minnesota has a first-round bye, meaning it will open play Friday afternoon at noon CT against the morning match winner between No. 6 Rutgers and No. 11 Maryland.
Saturday's schedule will be determined by Friday's results. The morning session (7 a.m. CT) features the championship semifinals and consolation semifinals, while Saturday afternoon concludes with the championship, third-, fifth- and seventh-place matches.
The Gophers' travel contingent will consist of seniors Thomas Longbella and Noah Rasinski, juniors Angus Flanagan and Evan Long, sophomore Lincoln Johnson and freshmen Harrison Arnold and Connor Glynn.
The seven Gophers in attendance this weekend mark the team's top seven scorers from the fall. Flanagan led the squad with an average of 69.33, while Glynn (71.33), Longbella (71.75), Long (72.41) and Arnold (72.64) rounded out the top five.
In addition to posting the team's top scoring average during the fall, Flanagan, who won the Macdonald Cup in late September, also led Minnesota in scores counted (96.7 percent), rounds under par (11), tournaments with the team's top score (4) and top-10 finishes (3).
As a team, Minnesota earned four top-10 finishes out of five fall tournaments, highlighted by a team title at the aforementioned Macdonald Cup.
