Meet Preview: Gophers Host Ohio State, Nebraska for Senior Day

3/11/2020 3:42:00 PM | Men's Gymnastics

The Minnesota men's gymnastics team is back at Maturi Pavilion for its final home meet of the regular season Friday, March 13.

The No. 10 Gophers take on the No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes and No. 6 Nebraska Cornhuskers at 7 p.m. The meet is one of Minnesota's four regular season Big Ten meets as the Gophers look to defend their 2019 title. The home team is currently 1-1-0 in conference, while Ohio State is 1-2-0 and Nebraska is 2-1-0.

It's also Senior Day at the Pavilion, and the Gophers will honor two-time team captain Timmy Kutyla post-meet. Kutyla has been an integral leader in his four years at Minnesota and is having an impressive senior campaign. He's earned eight podium finishes and two event titles through seven meets and has set new career high on both of his events, parallel bars (14.200) and high bar (14.000).

He was a member of the 2018 team that finished in a program-best runner-up position at NCAAs, was a 2019 Big Ten high bar finalist, and a three-time letterwinner. Kutyla is also a two-time Academic All-Big Ten and CGA All-American Scholar Athlete selection.

The meet will be streamed on BTN+ and live stats will be provided. Fans can also follow the Minnesota men's gymnastics TwitterFacebook and Instagram pages.

Gophers in the Rankings
Minnesota is currently ranked No. 10 as a team and sits in the top 10 in five events: No. 5 on parallel bars, No. 6 on rings, No. 7 on high bar, No. 8 on vault and No. 10 on pommel horse. Junior captain Shane Wiskus retains his spot as the No. 1 all-arounder in the country and is No. 2 on parallel bars, No. 5 on rings and No. 13 on floor. Sophomore Mike Moran is also in the top 15 all-around, No. 12, and No. 6 on floor. Kutyla comes in at No. 4 on high bar with sophomore David Pochinka at No. 14, and he is also ranked No. 8 on parallel bars. Freshman Donte McKinney is No. 9 on vault and junior Colton Dee checks in at No. 15 on rings.

The Road Ahead
The Gophers have just one meet left in the Big Ten regular season and travel east next week to take on the No. 8 Penn State Nittany Lions and No. 9 Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday, March 21 at 2 p.m. at Penn State's Rec Hall.
