Based on his performance during the 2019-20 season, Gophers junior Angus Flanagan was selected for a spot on the 2020 Arnold Palmer Cup International Team, announced Friday.

The Woking, England native will join golfers from 14 other countries on the Internationals team as they compete in a Ryder Cup-style match play event pitting United States college golfers against those from international countries.

He is the third Gopher in program history to make the Arnold Palmer Cup, joining Martin LeMesurier in 1997 and most recently, Wilhelm Schauman in 2003.

Flanagan is ranked 29th in the Golfweek Men's Collegiate Individual Rankings, as he posted a 69.33 stroke average through five tournaments in the fall season. He tallied three top-10 finishes including medalist honors at The Macdonald Cup while also placing second at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate just over one week later.

Flanagan went 2-0 in the Big Ten Match Play event in early February before the spring season was halted on March 12, 2020, when the Big Ten and NCAA announced they were ceasing competitions and championships because of COVID-19 public health concerns.

The Arnold Palmer Cup is slated for July 3-5 at Lahinch Golf Club, and while current events leave the status of the event in question, the release Friday provides the college golfers with recognition for their accomplishments.
