Minnesota Puts Up Perfect Performance

RALEIGH, N.C., - The No. 11 University of Minnesota Women's gymnastics team beat NC State in exciting fashion this afternoon, winning 197.625 - 196.550. The team score marks the second highest score in program history.

Between seven gymnasts, 10 new career-highs were set. Tiarre Sales led with three career-high performances on bars, floor and in the all-around. Minnesota swept the podium on vault, bars, beam and in the all-around.

"We are so proud of the team and their performances tonight," head coach Jenny Hansen said. "We've been talking a lot about focusing on what we can control and we did an excellent job tonight doing that. We kept our energy high and really stayed in the moment from start to finish."

Notable
With the first Perfect 10 of her career, Ona Loper became the fourth Gopher to reach perfection on vault.

All-Around
Minnesota's all-arounders shined in Raleigh, with Ona Loper (39.625) and Sales (39.400) setting career-highs. Lexy Ramler set a new season-high and took first with a 39.675, Loper and Sales finished second and third respectively.

Bars
The Maroon and Gold got off to a hot start, going 49.425 in the first rotation to tie for seventh all-time. Kristen Quaglia led off with a solid 9.825. Loper matched her career-high of 9.850 and was followed by a 9.900 from Ivy Lu. Sales and Ramler closed out the rotation with a pair of 9.925s, with Sales notching a new career-high.

Sales and Ramler tied for first place and Lu finished third.

Vault
Minnesota posted one of the top vault scores in the NCAA with a season-high 49.475. The score moves into sixth all-time in program history.Ā 

The second rotation was highlighted by Loper's perfect 10 and first place finish. She is the fourth Gopher to accomplish this. The last perfect 10 on vault was on March, 22 2014 from Lindsay Mable.

Halle Remlinger posted a 9.800 for a career-best and had her score matched by Sales. The career-highs kept on coming when Ramler posted a 9.950 for a second place finish and Maddie Quarles notched a 9.925 to finish third. Ramler's score tied for fourth all-time in program history.

Floor
With a team score of 49.175, floor was the team's lowest score on the night. Five Gophers scored a 9.800 or higher on the event.Ā 

Sales led the way for Minnesota with a 9.875 for a career-high and a third place finish. Casey Betts made her season debut on floor and shattered her previous career-high with a 9.800, Paige Williams also notched a 9.800 as the anchor. RemlingerĀ posted a 9.825 and Loper had a 9.850.

Beam
The beam team once again proved they are one of the best in the nation. The squad posted a score of 49.550 to move into fourth all-time. The 2020 beam team now owns three of the top-5 highest beam scores in program history. Four gymnasts posted a score of 9.925 or higher.

Lexi Montgomery made her first appearance on beam this season in the lead off position, scoring 9.750. Lu posted her second highest beam score on the season with a 9.925 and was followed up by a career-high performance from Mary Korlin-Downs, who put up a 9.925.Ā 

Ramler won her sixth beam title this season with a near perfect routine for a 9.975, while Loper, Lu and Korlin-Downs tied for second.

Minnesota will close out the regular season next Saturday, March 14 at Maturi Pavilion against No. 1 Oklahoma. The Gophers will wrap up heir home slate in style, competing in front of a sell out crowd. The meet will begin at 2:30 p.m. CT and will be on the Big Ten Network.
