MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - In a valiant effort, the University of Minnesota women's tennis team defeated the #21 ranked Wisconsin Badgers in an epic 4-3 victory. The Gophers are now 2-0 in B1G play and improve their record to 12-3 with 10 undefeated home wins; Wisconsin drops to 8-2 and 1-0 in the B1G.
Wins came from all over the board during the Border Battle slate. After getting ahead early on with the doubles point, the Maroon & Gold used the momentum during singles.
DOUBLES
The Gophers dominated the Badgers during the doubles portion of Saturday's matchup. In their second appearance as a duo, Tiffany Huber and Juliet Zhang claimed the first win. Capturing their sixth win the pair of Tina Kreinis and Cammy Frei secured the doubles point to get Minnesota up on the board early.
SINGLES
Singles play came down to the wire for the Maroon & Gold. Going back and forth against their rival Ekin Ercetin, Juliet Zhang and Cammy Frei all came out on top to overpower the Badgers. Ercetin and Zhang finished their matches in two straight sets, while Frei's match was the deciding factor.
After two tight sets, it was tied going into the third. In the No. 5 singles spot, Cammy Frei clinched the victory for Minnesota 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 over Miruna Tudor.
NOTABLE
Minnesota defeated #21 Wisconsin 4-3 today at Baseline Tennis Center. Continuing their undefeated home streak the Gophers improve their record to 12-3 (2-0 B1G). Senior Cammy Frei clinched the win in the No. 5 singles spot in a third set thriller.

"Coming in we knew they were ranked," said senior Cammy Frei. "We lost to them 5-2 last year, so I wanted to get revenge and it's always a good day to beat the Badgers."
UP NEXT
The Gophers will travel down to Orlando, Fla., next week for a quick spring break training trip. They will return to conference play on March 22 for a match against the Maryland Terrapins. Minnesota will return to Baseline the following weekend to play against the Nittany Lions and the Buckeyes.
