Get to know the people behind the program who support the Gophers in their athletic and academic endeavors, beginning with head coach Brad Frost.

Gopher Sports: When did you start working at the University of Minnesota?

Brad Frost: January 1, 2001

GS: What's your alma mater and what did you study in college?

BF: Bethel College ('96). I majored in Physical Education and Health with a minor in coaching.

GS: What does your job as head coach entail?

BF: Managing and overseeing a world-class program, staff, players, and recruits.

GS: How did you get into your field?

BF: I knew I wanted to be an educator and coach. Out of college, I taught part time and coached girls volleyball at New Life Academy. Soon after, I became the JV girls hockey coach at Eagan High School. I was able to coach girls right out of college and loved it.

GS: How did you get into your current position at the University of Minnesota?

BF: I was teaching at Northview Elementary School and serving as an assistant coach with the men's hockey program at Bethel. An assistant coaching job opened up at the U, and I was encouraged to apply by Joel Johnson, who was already an assistant coach at the U. I had done a hockey camp with Joel and Laura Halldorson the summer before, so I had already gotten to know Laura a little bit.

GS: What is your favorite part about your job?

BF: The opportunity to be around our players everyday and build lasting relationships with them, being involved with the greatest sport in the world, and being surrounded by a staff and players that are amazing.

GS: What challenges do you face in your job?

BF: Managing a program as big as GWH has its challenges, but having a rock-star staff eases that burden each day.

GS: What are your proudest moments in your professional career?

BF: The national championships and providing great experiences for our players that often have nothing to do with winning.

GS: Did you ever play hockey? What's your hockey/athletic background?

BF: Growing up in Canada, I played hockey from an early age. I loved playing. I also played baseball and golf.

GS: What is your favorite memory in your time working with Gopher women's hockey?

BF: There are moments that I will never forget, like Alyssa Grogan playing in the last 9.8 seconds, Amanda Kessel coming back against North Dakota and being introduced for the starting line up, and Taylor Williamson scoring the game-winning goal in the WCHA Final Faceoff after her MG diagnosis.

GS: What is your favorite professional or college sport or team to watch (of course hockey, but anything else)?

BF: Toronto Maple Leafs and the Masters.

GS: What do you like to do in your free time?

BF: Hang with the family, golf, and watch TV.

GS: Fill in the blank: If I wasn't the head coach of Gopher women's hockey, I would be a ________________.

BF: A jersey or ring designer.
