Rowing Signs Three More for Fall 2020

Head Coach Alicea Strodel announced the addition of three more student-athletes to the 2024 class. Zoe Adam, Aviana Valtierra and Candan Yalman join Meri Bosnic, Adelaide Hazen and Anna Hanson, who signed last fall.
"Our coaches, again, have done a great job of identifying women who embrace our team values and are excited to propel our program forward," Strodel said. "Both Zoe and Candan are well coached and have been training at a high level. They are great competitors and do it with a smile. Avianna is a bit younger in her rowing career, but with consistent training, will definitely be a contributor to our team."
Zoe Adam - Miles Macdonell Collegiate - Winnipeg Rowing Club & Manitoba Rowing
Zoe Adam Hails from Winnipeg, Manitoba and will join the Gophers in the fall. Adam started rowing two years ago and competed in the 2019 Western Summer Games and Western Canada Summer Games for Manitoba.
Her greatest sports thrill was rowing the double and quad at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta and making big gains in her second year of rowing on the erg. Outside of rowing, Adam enjoys road cycling and bike building. Prior to rowing, she used to practice acrobatics and contortion. Planning on majoring in nutrition.
Candan Yalman - FMV Işık High School - Fenerbahçe Rowing Team
Candan Yalman joins the Gophers from Istanbul, Turkey. Yalman has spent the past four years with Fenerbahçe Sports Cub.
Her greatest sports thrill was when she rowed for the National Team in 2018, winning gold, and when she helped beat a record at the Women's Pair in 2019. Outside of rowing, she enjoys drawing, windsurfing and table tennis. In the classroom, Yalman was named to the school's Honor List and earned an Appreciation Letter.
In 2019, Yalman finished in first place in the Mediterranean Rowing Cup 2X JWB, Spring Cup Rowing 4- JWA, Turkish Young Women Rowing Championship 2- JWA, Turkish Young Women Rowing Championship 4- JWA, Turkish Young Women Rowing Championship 2- JWA and the Turkish Young Women Rowing Championship 4- JWA.
Aviana Valtierra - Middleton high school
A Middleton, Wis. native, Aviana brings six years of rowing experience to the University of Minnesota.
