MINNEAPOLIS – As Gopher Hockey prepares for a historic season in 2020-21, GopherSports.com takes one last look back at the 2019-20 campaign with our Top Moments of the Season.
Next up on our list, we leave the friendly confines of 3M Arena at Mariucci and head out into the community as the Gophers continued to visit local rinks and connect with youth players during the 2019-20 season.
Minnesota continued the Skate the Cities series this season with a stop in Blaine for a Gophers practice followed by an open skate and autograph session. And new this season, the Rink Roots initiative saw student-athletes drop in at their hometown rinks to surprise youth teams at their practices in Edina, St. Louis Park and St. Paul.
"I like being around the kids and having the young kids around the program," Gopher Hockey head coach Bob Motzko said. "Minnesota is such a great state with all the youth hockey associations and all our volunteers working to grow the game. It's great to get out and have a chance to practice in front of them and have some fun with them."
