Dynamic receiver, quarterback continue to collect preseason honors

Gopher fans heard similar phrases like that 60 times last season, which resulted in 1,219 passing and receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. 

Today, the dynamic quarterback and receiver were named to the Maxwell Award Watch List, which is presented annually to the most outstanding player in college football.

Bateman, who was named Third-Team All-American last season and All-Big Ten First Team, has caught at least one pass in all 26 games he has played in and has made 111 receptions for 1,923 yards and 17 touchdowns. He has seven 100-yard receiving games and set multiple freshman and sophomore school records in the Maroon and Gold. Last season, he caught 60 passes for 1,219 yards (second most in a single season) and 11 touchdowns (tied for second most in a single season).

Morgan, who was All-Big Ten Second Team last year, and set school single-season records for passing yards (3,253), touchdown passes (30), completion percentage (66.0%), passing yards per game (250.2), touchdown-interception ratio (4.28) and pass efficiency rating (178.7) in 2019.

The Gophers return nine starters on offense this year from a team that totaled 5,616 yards (third most in school history), 3,293 passing yards (school record), 294 first downs (second most in school history), 443 points (second most in school history) and a scoring average of 34.1 points per game (three most in school history).
