MINNEAPOLIS – A pair of skaters for the No. 4 Gopher men's hockey program have earned Big Ten weekly honors following Minnesota's sweep of Arizona State with Blake McLaughlin tabbed as the Big Ten First Star of the Week and Brannon McManus earning Big Ten Second Star of the Week.Â
A native of Grand Rapids, Minn., McLaughlin led the Big Ten with seven points (four goals, three assists), led the nation with 3.50 points per game and tied for the NCAA lead with four goals over the last week. The forward doubled his season scoring total in the Sun Devils series, recording a career-high four points (two goals, two assists) including the game winner in Thursday's 10-0 win before adding three more points (two goals, one assist) including Minnesota's second shorthanded goal of the season in Friday's 10-2 victory. Minnesota is 6-0-0 this year when McLaughlin tallies a point.Â
A native of Newport Beach, Calif., McManus tied for the NCAA lead with four goals over the last week and notched six points (four goals, to assists) as Minnesota outscored Arizona State 20-2 in the series. The alternate captain notched his second career hat trick (and Minnesota's first natural hat trick since 2014) in Thursday's 10-0 win before following up with two points (one goal, one assist) in Friday's 10-2 victory in the series finale. Minnesota is 9-0-0 this season when the forward tallies a point.Â
Minnesota returns to Big Ten play next weekend with a two-game series at Ohio State.
