Seven different Gophers scored goals in a back-and-forth game one against Ohio State.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Twelve different Gophers recorded points and seven different players scored goals as the No. 2 University of Minnesota women's hockey team earned a 7-4 win over No. 3 Ohio State at OSU Ice Rink Friday night.

In a back-and-forth game, the score was tied four times and neither team led by more than one until Minnesota (9-3-0, 9-3-0 WCHA) broke a 4-4 tie and scored three unanswered goals on the way to the game-one win. Taylor Heise broke a 4-4 tie with 9:43 remaining before Crystalyn Hengler put the Gophers up by two with the team's second power-play goal of the game. Catie Skaja iced the win with an empty-net goal in the final 20 seconds.

The Gophers got multiple points from Heise (1g-1a), Abbey Murphy (1g-1a), Grace Zumwinkle (1g-1a), Emily Oden (1g-1a), and Emily Brown (2a) while OSU's Emma Maltais led all players with four points (1g-3a).

Ohio State (8-5-0, 8-5-0 WCHA) had a slight advantage in shots on goal, edging the Gophers 33-31 for the game. Lauren Bench finished with 29 saves for the Maroon & Gold while Andrea Braendli made 24 saves for the Buckeyes.

The teams were tied 2-2 after the opening 20 minutes, and the Gophers took a 4-3 lead into the second intermission. Murphy opened the scoring, and Zumwinkle tied the game at 2-2 at the end of the first period. Oden scored a power-play goal to put the Gophers up 3-2 in the second period, and Abigail Boreen regained the lead at 4-3 after OSU responded. Despite surrendering another game-tying goal early in the third period, the Gophers erupted for three third-period goals on the way to the win.

Quotable
"Great win here tonight on the road, great opponent in Ohio State," head coach Brad Frost said. "I just loved the way our team battled and competed here tonight. The game got tied up many times, but to find a way to continue to stay with it and get the win on the road is a great three points. We're really happy with it. We know it will be another battle tomorrow and we're looking forward to that."

Notable
The last time Minnesota had seven different goal scorers in a game was an 11-1 win at Minnesota State on Nov. 27, 2015 when Dani Cameranesi (2g), Kelly Pannek, Hannah Brandt (3g), Brook Garzone, Lee Stecklein, Sarah Potomak (2g), and Nina Rodgers all scored for the Maroon & Gold.

Up Next
The Gophers and Buckeyes meet in game two of this week's series at 2:07 p.m. CT Saturday afternoon.
