Minnesota Settles for Split with OSU

The Golden Gophers fell 3-1 in game two of this weekend's series on the road in Columbus, Ohio.
COLUMBUS, Ohio --Ā The No. 2 Golden Gopher women's hockey team had to settle for a series split with No. 3 Ohio State as Minnesota fell 3-1 in game two of this weekend's series on the road in Columbus, Ohio.
Minnesota (9-4-0, 9-4-0 WCHA) surrendered one goal in each period, including an empty-net goal with 13 seconds remaining in the game. Abigail Boreen scored the Gophers' lone goal with one second remaining in the middle frame, bringing the Gophers within one at 2-1, going into the final stanza.
Makayla Pahl made a career-best 41 saves on 43 shots in net for the Maroon & Gold. Ohio State (9-5-0, 9-5-0 WCHA) had the advantage in shots on goal, outshooting the Gophers 44-30.Ā AmandaĀ ThieleĀ made 29 saves for the Buckeyes.
The Gophers were 0-for-5 on the power play on Saturday after scoring two power-play goals in the team's 7-4 win in game one of the series on Friday. Meanwhile,Ā OSU went 1-for-3 with the skater advantage, converting on its first power play of the game in the opening period. For the series, the Gophers were 6-for-8 on the penalty kill.Ā

They played well, unfortunately just couldn't find a way to get that equalizer and then giving up the empty-netter. It was a hard-fought game.
