MINNEAPOLIS -- The No. 2 Golden Gopher women's hockey team dropped a 4-3 overtime decision to top-ranked Wisconsin in game one of this weekend's Border Battle series at Ridder Arena on Friday night.

Daryl Watts then scored her second of the game to secure the three-on-three overtime win for the visiting squad.Ā
The Gophers received goals fromĀ Madeline Wethington, Grace Zumwinkle, and Crystalyn HenglerĀ along with a 25-save effort from Lauren Bench while the Badgers were led byĀ Watts, who had three points (2g-1a) and 29 saves from goaltender Kennedy Blair.Ā
Quotable
"Obviously, a frustrating result here tonight," head coach Brad Frost said. "Our team played a really good game and were solid. To give one up with 30 seconds left there is always difficult. That was our first three-on-three overtime, and we made a mistake with two people going to the puck carrier and we gave up the three-on-one. Overall, I'm proud of our team, but we're disappointed in the result of this one."
Notable
The game marked the first three-on-three overtime action for the Gophers this season.Ā
