Gophers Add Another Sweep Over the Terrapins

The University of Minnesota earned its fourth-straight sweep when it defeated Maryland 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-15), tonight in College Park, Md. With the win, Minnesota is 4-0 in overall and Big Ten play.
Taylor Landfair led the team with 11 kills, had just one error in 20 attempts and hit .500. Rollins had nine kills, while Regan Pittman hit .889 when she had eight kills in nine attempts. She also had three aces. Melani Shaffmaster added 28 assists, six kills, two aces and seven digs. Myers led the team with six blocks, while CC McGraw had nine digs.
As a team, Minnesota added a total of 10 aces, 42 kills, 39 digs, seven team blocks and hit .362. Maryland hit .247, had 38 kills, 35 digs and four team blocks.
Notables:
-Regan Pittman held a career-best match hitting clip when she bettered her previous best of 75 percent against Indiana Sept. 27, 2019.
-For the second straight night, Minnesota had over 10 aces in the match. The Gophers had 11 last night against Maryland. Those totals were the most in back-to-back matches in over five years.

Set Breakdown
Set 1: Tied at 22-22, Minnesota closed out the set on a 3-1 run for a 25-23 set win and a 1-0 lead. Minnesota went up 10-7 on a Shaffmaster ace, while the Gophers went up 15-11 on a Pittman kill. Landfair had a kill for the 19-15 point. Maryland, however, tied the set at 21-21 on a kill. However, Minnesota was able to close out the set on a Maryland attack error, its seventh of the set, and a Rollins kill for the 1-0 lead.
Set 2: The Gophers hit .419 in the second for a 25-18 set win. Minnesota opened the second with a 6-1 lead off a Samedy ace and forced the Terps to call a timeout. Landfair pushed the score to 10-6 on a kill, while Pittman followed with kills for Minnesota's 13th and 14th points. Minnesota had back-to-back blocks, a solo by Myers and a Myers/Shaffmaster block for an 18-12 lead. The Gophers had a Pittman ace for the 20-12 point, while Myers added a kill at 22-15. The Gophers closed out the set with a Samedy kill for set point and an ace by McGraw to take a 2-0 lead.
