HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND
• Minnesota is coming off a pair of 3-0 wins against Maryland, Jan. 29-30 in College Park, Md. Stephanie Samedy and Taylor Landfair led the offensive attack, as they each had 20 kills and averaged 3.33 kills per set. Katie Myers had 11 blocks, while CC McGraw had 26 digs and averaged 4.33 per set. Minnesota had an astounding 21 aces last weekend, 11 the first match, 10 the second, for the most aces in back-to-back matches in over five years.Â
•  Taylor Landfair was named the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week, announced Monday by the league office. This is Landfair's first league honor and Minnesota's second-straight freshman of the week honor as Melani Shaffmaster was awarded it in the opening week of play. In just her second weekend of collegiate competition, Landfair added a team-best 20 kills and averaged 3.33 kills per set in a pair of wins over Maryland. On Friday, Landfair had nine kills and two blocks. She followed Saturday with a team-best 11 kills, hit .500, committed just one error in 20 swings and had two blocks. In her first two weeks, Landfair averages 2.82 kills per set, has 31 kills and seven blocks.
• After two weeks of play, Minnesota held the league's best digs per set (16.00 and aces per set (2.42), tied for second in kills per set (13.83) and third-best hitting clip (.285).Â
• Minnesota moved  up one spot in the AVCA ranking from No. 7 to No. 6. Ahead of the Gophers is Wisconsin (1), Texas (2), Kentucky (3), Nebraska (4) and Baylor (5). In all, the Big Ten has six teams ranked and two receiving votes. For the first time this year, the Gophers will face a ranked opponent in No. 13 Purdue this weekend. Â
• Stephanie Samedy currently ranks 15th among NCAA active leaders in career kills (1,233) and 25th in kills per set (3.54). Regan Pittman ranks fourth among NCAA active leaders in career hitting percentage (.364), fourth in blocks per set (1.17) and sixth in total blocks (408).Â
SCOUTING THE BOILERMAKERS
• No. 13 Purdue is 2-2 on the season, as it dropped its opening weekend against No. 1 Wisconsin, but defeated Iowa last weekend. All four matches were either won or lost in three sets.Â
• Caitlyn Newton leads the team with 39 kills, followed by Big Ten Player of the Week Jael Johnson with 31. Hayley Bush averages 9.92 assists per set, while Jena Otec averages 3.50 digs per set. Taylor Trammell leads the team with 12 blocks, and is hitting .405, also a team best. Â
• As a team, the Boilermakers are averaging 12.7 kills per set, 1.6 blocks per set, 13.9 digs per set and are hitting 24.1 percent.Â
LAST TIME AGAINST PURDUE
• Minnesota earned a 3-1 win (25-23, 16-25, 25-17, 25-19) over No. 16 Purdue, Nov. 3, 2019, also in West Lafayette, Ind. As a team, Minnesota hit .288 to Purdue's .183. Minnesota also had 57 kills, three aces, eight blocks and 54 digs. Purdue had 50 kills, seven aces, 10 blocks and hit .183.
• Alexis Hart hit a stifling .467 when she had 19 kills in 30 attempts. Adanna Rollins followed with 14 kills and completed 10 digs for the double-double.Â

• Minnesota returns to Maturi Pavilion confines, Feb. 13-14 when the Penn State Nittany Lions come to town. Both matches are scheduled to be shown on Big Ten Network. Feb. 13 is slated for a 7 p.m. start, while Feb. 14 is at 6:30 p.m.Â
