MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota men's golf team opened the Isleworth Collegiate on Sunday at Isleworth Golf & Country Club. After 18 holes at college golf's major championship, the Gophers are currently tied for 11th while Antoine Sale and Ben Warian are tied for 22nd after shooting 1-over par.
Arizona State leads the field of fourteen after an 11-under 277 first round. Auburn currently holds second place at even-par and LSU follows closely behind at three shots out. Individually, Cameron Sisk and Preston Summerhays of Arizona State are tied for first at 5-under (67).
Both Sale and Warian began the day with a 1-over front nine, with Sale recording one birdie. They each carded two birdies and two bogies for an even-par back nine and 1-over 73 on the day.
Senior Lincoln Johnson jumped out to a strong start, with birdies on the first, sixth and seventh holes. He had back-to-back bogies on eight and nine to turn in a 1-under front nine. Finding a bit of difficulty on the back nine, he went 2-over on the day to tie for 37th.
Harrison Arnold finished at 6-over 78 and Bennett Swavely finished at 9-over 81 to be tied for 60th place and 71st place, respectively.
The Gophers will tee off in tomorrow's second round beginning with Swavely at 7:25 a.m. CT from the 10th hole. Arnold, Johnson, Warian and Sale will follow in 10 minute increments.
