MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota junior diver Jake Butler has been named the Big Ten Diver of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
A native of Seal Beach, Calif., Butler swept the diving portion of the Golden Gophers' dual meet victory at Purdue last Friday. He claimed the 1-meter board with a score of 363.90, which is the top score in the Big Ten this year and fifth-best score in Division I college diving so far this year.
He later recorded a score of 401.18 on the 3-meter board, which is also good for the top mark in the Big Ten this year and third best in D1 diving this season.
The accolade is the second of Butler's career. He was also named the Big Ten Diver of the Week on Oct. 16, 2019. That was the last time a Gopher diver took home weekly honors from the conference.
Butler and the Golden Gophers return to the pool on Oct. 30 when they host St. Thomas in their home opener. The meet is scheduled to start at noon.
