The 'U' reached double digits for the first time since 2015 behind goals from seven different Gophers.

Minneapolis, Minn. -- The No. 3 Golden Gopher women's hockey team cruised to a 10-0 victory over RIT in the first-ever regular season meeting between the two teams at Ridder Arena on Friday evening.

Minnesota (8-3-0) picked up its seventh straight win as they overpowered RIT (0-13-0) by scoring three or more goals in each period. Friday's 10-goal performance is the first time the Gophers have reached the double digit mark since an 11-1 win over Minnesota State on Nov. 27, 2015. The flood gates opened after Taylor Heise converted a 2-on-1 shorthanded opportunity just under seven minutes into the first. Over the next 4:28, the Gophers added three more goals from Peyton Hemp, Heise, and Audrey Wethington to end a dominant 4-0 first period. Heise finished off her hat-trick, the second of her career, with Minnesota's 10th and final goal of the night. Seven different Gophers lit the lamp, including Emily Zumwinkle who notched the first of her career. The Gophers outshot the Tigers 59-12 in Friday's contest.

Makayla Pahl earned the victory making four saves in 27:35 of action to move her season record to 4-0-0. Junior Olivia King entered the game at the 12:25 mark of the second period for her season, and Ridder Arena, debut. She stopped all eight of the shots she faced to preserve the team shutout. Makayla Pahl contributed in the offense outburst as well, making a long pass to earn an assist on Heise's second goal.

Quotable
"A complete team effort here tonight," said head coach Brad Frost. "It was great to see Olivia King in the net, Emily Zumwinkle with her first goal, and Josey Dunne with her first goal of the season. So, a lot of really good things. We moved the puck really well, applied the pressure, played well defensively. All in all, a really good game for our team."

Notable
Taylor Heise picked up her second career hat trick as the only Gopher to score multiple goals. Crystalyn Hengler and Josey Dunne each lit the lamp for the first time this season, while Emily Zumwinkle did so for the first time in her career. Sadie Lindsay earned her first career point as she picked up an assist on Abigail Boreen's second period goal. Freshman Emma Conner tallied her first career point with an assist on Josey Dunne's goal. Goaltender Makayla Pahl picked up her first career point.
