Gophers Set for Home-and-Home Series with the Huskies

No. 3 Minnesota travels to St. Cloud on Friday before hosting the 2021 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum Women’s Face-Off Classic on Saturday at Ridder Arena.
MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 3 University of Minnesota women's hockey team is set to take on the St. Cloud State Huskies on Friday at Herb Brooks National Hockey Center and on Saturday at Ridder Arena in the 2021 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum Women's Face-Off Classic.
Last Time Out: Gophers Sweep Tigers
The Gophers (9-3-0) picked up their fourth straight series sweep and second non-conference sweep of the season. No. 3/3 Minnesota defeated RIT 10-0 on Friday in the first regular season meeting between the two programs. It was the first time the Gophers reached the double digit mark in scoring since 2015. Taylor Heise recorded her second career hat trick and finished with a +7 rating, tied for the third best +/- rating in a single game in program history. Seven other Gophers lit the lamp in the win, including freshman Emily Zumwinkle, who scored her first career goal. Makayla Pahl got the start for the Maroon and Gold and earned her fourth win of the season. Junior Olivia King saw game action for the second time in her career and stopped all eight shots that she saw. On Saturday, the Gophers picked up their eighth straight win by a score of 7-1. Once again, seven different Gophers scored. It marked the first time since 2008 that the 'U' has had at least seven different goal scorers in both games of a series. Saturday's goal scorers included freshman Emma Conner, who tallied a goal for the first time in her career. Heise added a goal and an assist in game two to extend her point streak to 10 games. Freshman Skylar Vetter earned her second career win after one period of action. Lauren Bench and Olivia King each made an appearance for a period. Taylor Heise (4g-3a), Emma Conner (1g3a), Peyton Hemp (2g-2a), Crystalyn Hengler (1g-3a), Catie Skaja (2g-2a), Abigail Boreen (1g-2a), Sadie Lindsay (2a), Savannah Norcorss (1g-1a), Amy Potomak (2a), Madeline Wethington (1g-1a), and Emily Zumwinkle (1g-1a) all finished with multi-point weekends.
Scouting St. Cloud State
St. Cloud State (4-5-1) currently sits at fifth in the WCHA with a conference record of 2-5-1. The Huskies are coming off a home series sweep over Minnesota State in which they outscored the Mavericks 7-3. The Huskies are lead in scoring by junior Taylor Lind (2g-8a). Sophomore Emma Gentry (5g-2a) and sophomore Mackenzie Bourgerie (3g-4a) are both tied for second in points.
2021 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum Women's Face-Off Classic
On Saturday, the Gophers and Huskies will participate in the 2021 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum Women's Face-Off Classic at Ridder Arena. The Gophers participated in the event in 2019, defeating Minnesota State 4-0 at Dakotah! Ice Center in Prior Lake, Minn. A variety of special guests, including Gopher alumnae Krissy Wendell-Pohl and Natalie Darwitz will be honored during the second intermission. World Series champion Kent Hrbek will drop the puck to kick-off the festivities.
History Against the Huskies
The Gophers and Huskies have faced off 102 times in program history with Minnesota leading the series 96-3-3. The "U' currently holds a 17- game win streak over their in-state rivals and have not lost a contest since 2010. Minnesota has never lost to St. Cloud State at Ridder Arena.

Freshmen Emily Zumwinkle and Emma Conner each scored their first career goals over the weekend. Freshman Sadie Lindsay earned her first career points with two assists on Friday. Taylor Heise recorded a career high seven points over the series, while notching her second career hat trick.

The 2021-22 season marks the 25th season of Gopher women's hockey. To celebrate the first quarter-century of Gopher women's hockey, Minnesota will wear special '25 seasons' patches on their jerseys among other celebrations throughout the season.

Minnesota has won seven national championships (2000, 2004, 2005, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2016) and looks for a historic eighth title national crown in 2021-22.
