Minnesota vs. ASUN: 6-0

STARTING FIVE
• The University of Minnesota welcomes Jacksonville to Williams Arena Wednesday night at 8 p.m. It marks the first of 18 BTN televised games this season and the third TV game this year. Minnesota is 2-0 in the previous two meetings against Jacksonville and marks the first time since 1983 the Golden Gophers face the Dolphins. Minnesota won a home game against Jacksonville on Dec. 19, 1983. The first-ever meeting dates back to Dec. 22, 1982 when Minnesota was the road team and walked away with a 62-48 win. Wednesday's battle will also be between two first-year head coaches with Minnesota's Ben Johnson and Jacksonville's Jordan Mincy.
• The Gophers are coming off a 78-49 victory against Purdue Fort Wayne last Friday to start the season, 4-0. The win marked Minnesota's second straight 4-0 start to a season and the fifth time in the past six years. It also marks the fourth-straight game the Gophers have scored over 70 points this season. Averaging 77.3 ppg, Minnesota ranks fifth in the Big Ten in offense.
• In back-to-back games, Sean Sutherlin has come off the bench and produced double-figure scoring for a combined 33 points. His 33 points is the most off the bench in consecutive games since Isaiah Washington scored 41 from 1/30-2/3 during the 2017-18 season. On Friday, Sutherlin held a game-high 19 points in 25 minutes. He was a perfect 7-of-7 from the field and 5-of-8 at the free throw line, while also leading the Gophers with seven rebounds. Against Princeton, Sutherlin established 14 points in 19 minutes played.
• Minnesota currently ranks ninth nationally in defensive rebounds. The Golden Gophers have 132 defensive rebounds to average 33 per game. Through four games this year, four Gophers have over 20 defensive rebounds: Jamison Battle (23), Eric Curry (21), Payton Willis (20) and Sean Sutherlin (20).
Jamison Battle is averaging a team-best 18.8 points per game. That ranks third within the Big Ten behind Iowa's Keegan Murray (25.5) and Ohio State's E.J. Liddell (21.0). Payton Willis and Battle also rank in the top six in three-point percentage. Willis is 41.7 percent and ranked fifth, followed by Battle in sixth at 35.5 percent. Battle and will also average 2.8 and 2.5 threes per game, which ranks sixth and sixth within the Big Ten, respectively.

SCOUTING THE DOLPHINS
• Like Minnesota, Jacksonville has 10 newcomers on its roster this season including six transfers and four freshmen. The Dolphins are 2-1 in this early season. After starting out with wins against Trinity Baptist (79-43) and North Carolina A&T, Jacksonville dropped its last contest to UCF, Nov. 16 (63-54).
• Graduate guard Jordan Davis has recorded double digit scoring in all three games this season and averages a team-high 14.3 points per game. Redshirt Junior forward Osayi Osifo averages 9.3 ppg and 7.0 rebounds per game.
• Head coach Jordan Mincy is in his first year at the helm after a six-year stint as an assistant at Florida.

GOPHERS VS. ASUN CONFERENCE
• The University of Minnesota is 6-0 all time against current ASUN programs, including 2-0 against Jacksonville.
• The last time Minnesota played Jacksonville in 1983, recent M Club inductee Tommy Davis scored 23 points in 40 minutes of play for the 52-50 win. Tied at 50-50, Minnesota guard Marc Wilson scored the winning basket with 3:59 remaining for the win.
• The last ASUN team Minnesota played dates back to Dec. 11, 2018 when the Gophers defeated North Florida, 80-71. Jordan Murphy had a team-high 20 points and 18 rebounds in that win.
