Minnesota will have three players at the Senior Bowl for the first time since 2001

University of Minnesota defensive linemen Boye Mafe and Esezi Otomewo accepted invitations to compete in the Senior Bowl. The annual event will be held on Feb. 5, 2022, and will be broadcast on the NFL Network.

Mafe, who was named All-Big Second Team by the media and All-Big Third Team by the coaches today, led Minnesota with six sacks and nine tackles for loss this year, while finishing sixth on the team with 30 tackles. Mafe has played in 40 career games and has made 83 tackles, which includes 14 sacks and 18.5 tackles for loss.

Otomewo was named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention today by both the coaches and the media. He finished the year with 27 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack. Otomewo has played in 43 career games and has made 78 tackles, which includes 10.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks.

Mafe and Otomewo will be the 45th and 46th Gophers to compete in the Senior Bowl and they will join Minnesota offensive lineman Daniel Faalele at the premier event in Mobile, Ala.

The last time Minnesota had three individuals at the Senior Bowl was 2001 when offensive lineman Ben Hamilton and defensive linemen Karon Riley and John Schlecht participated.
