Andries, Gibbens Named to Academic All-America Team

Andries becomes second Gopher ever to honored as an Academic All-American three times
University of Minnesota offensive lineman Blaise Andries and linebacker Jack Gibbens were named to the 2021 Academic All-America Division I Football Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) today. Andries and Gibbens were both named to the First Team. This honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
This is the third time that Andries, who is majoring in Actuary Science / Applied Business Analytics, has been named Academic All-America. Andries was also named to the First Team in 2020 after being placed on the Second Team in 2019. He is the first Gopher ever to be named to the First Team twice. He is also the second Gopher ever to be honored three times, joining Justin Conzemius who was recognized in 1993 (Second Team), 1994 (First Team) and 1995 (Second Team).
This is the second time that Gibbens has been honored, but his first at Minnesota. Gibbens double majored in accounting and finance at Abilene Christian and was named to the First Team in 2019. He is working on his Master of Accountancy at Minnesota.
Minnesota has now had eight Academic All-America team members in the last four years. Minnesota last had eight players recognized from 1994-2015. The Gophers have had 34 individuals named Academic All-American in total dating back to 1956.
This is also the first time ever that Minnesota has gone four straight years with an Academic All-America honoree. Minnesota had three honorees in 2018, two in 2019, one in 2020 and now two in 2021.
